Dakota status: dead in Ohio
Trailer's brakes stopped working along the way, made it 2300 miles out of the 2800 trip with a heavily loaded truck and trailer. A semi ahead of me stopped, I thought he was slowing down, by the time I realized it and got hard on the brakes I was only able to drop to about 20 when I hit. The trailer pile drove me into the truck. 95% sure it's totaled as the bed was pushed into the cab.
I got out with minor bruising, passenger a sore muscle and abrasions from the airbag and bruising, one of my kitties got a cut from the rear glass.
Will post more later, still have a lot to unpack.

By the looks of it you had that thing hitched to the bumper ball and not a real hitch, not that it had anything to do with the accident but thats probably too much weight for a bumper. One of my pet peeves are when people dont use proper hitches.

The forged hitch curved up over and around the bumper.

One of my pet peeves are the people who jump in and to offer criticism after the fact, without knowledge of the situation, and an air of superiority. Happy America Day!

Damn thats impressive, i figured a hitch would have handled that.

Exactly. A heavy trailer should be hitched to a receiver bolted to the truck frame, possibly needed a weight distributing hitch.
